Organic Hydroponics: Feeding Your Plants Organic Nutrients

Organic hydroponicsOrganic hydroponics seems to be an oxymoron. People who prefer an organic lifestyle may resist the idea of removing soil from the growing process. Removing the soil suggests that the organic matter is not important; simply the nutrients (chemicals) matter in plant growth. However, organic hydroponics serves the organic lifestyle well in that it removes not only the soil but also the chemicals from the plant growing process.

The difference between hydroponics and organic hydroponics is found in what the gardener feeds the plants. You can purchase chemical fertilizers or even make home made versions of such; however, in organic hydroponics, you will feed your plants organic nutrients.

As a side note: organic feeding is not recommended for all hydroponic systems. Even the smallest particles in organic mixtures can clog systems; therefore, many recommend refraining from organic feeding if you use aeroponics or any of the hydroponic drip systems.

If organic hydroponics is your goal, some suggestions for food include varying amounts of Maxsea (which is a seaweed based fertilizer for plants) plus Espom salts. While this particular organic item may be somewhat difficult to locate, it is worth the search. It is inexpensive, has a high level of plant hormones, and is almost perfectly pH balanced.

Another recommended organic food to feed your plants is a type of nutrient tea made from worm castings and bat guano. This nutrient tea however lacks the necessary liquid seaweed component found in Maxsea, and it also has lower levels of hormones and vitamins. But, it is still a great option; you may just have to supplement a little more. Further, with the tea method of organic hydroponics feeding, please check the pH balance carefully.

If neither of the above interests you, there are also other professional lines from which to choose. Canna Bio is an organic and vegan product. Canna Bio’s products are reported as easy to use as they do not need to be mixed into a solution as do others. Additionally, the pH balance of Canno Bio products is right where it needs to be, which eliminates one more level that you must maintain; this saves you time and money.

Organic hydroponics may require more work and deliver less of a yield, but there is a demand for produce that is chemical free. Organic hydroponics satisfies this demand.
